The process for applying for a kindergarten transfer has been updated as outlined below:
First, please check your new address with the School Attendance Map to confirm that your address is within the Hall County School District. If your address is no longer in the Hall County School District, please go to: Out-of-District Transfer Procedures
List of Hall County Schools that do NOT have available space and thus ARE NOT Available for In-District HB 251 or Magnet applications for the 2024-2025 school year:
- Johnson High School
- Spout Springs School of Enrichment (only available for rising kindergarten students who have enrolled siblings in school)
- Flowery Branch High School does not have available space in 10th – 12th grades and is only able to consider In-District Transfer Requests for students who will be in 9th grade in 2024-2025.
A currently enrolled student who moves to a new residency address that is within the Hall County School District and who wishes to remain enrolled in his/her current school may apply through the In-District Transfer Request for 2023-2024.
Additionally, families who move to the Hall County School District during the current school year should enroll in their zoned school, and complete the In-District Transfer Request for 2023-2024 to request a transfer to a school with available space.
Please know that if you choose to transfer your child to another school in the district, the law requires parents/guardians to assume all costs and responsibilities related to the transportation of a child to and from the school as long as the child remains at that school.
If In-District transfer is approved, student may remain enrolled at current school.
As a parent or guardian, you can request to have your child transferred to another public school within the school district as long as the district has determined that there is available classroom space at the school you requested. If you choose to transfer your child to another school in the district, the law requires you to assume all costs and responsibilities related to the transportation of your child to and from the school.
If a parent requests a transfer to a school that does not have the services required by the current Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or Individualized Accommodation Plan (IAP), HB 251 does not require the school to develop those services as long as they are available within the local school system. Students who transfer under HB 251 are subject to GHSA eligibility requirements.
*Parents may complete HB 251 Transfer Requests for rising kindergarten students, but rising kindergarten students will register during kindergarten registration (TBA), at their zoned elementary school. If a transfer is approved, the registration information will be sent to the approved transfer school.
In the event a particular school has available space and the number of transfer requests exceeds the remaining available capacity, transfer requests will be reviewed and approved or denied on the basis of a lottery. Once available classroom space is reached at a school, no more transfers will be accepted at that school.
