Joey Millwood, Director of Student Services, Announces Retirement

The Hall County School District announced today the retirement of Joey Millwood, Director of Student Services, effective at the conclusion of the 2025–2026 school year. Millwood’s career with the district spans 30 years and includes service in a wide range of roles at both the school and district levels.

Millwood began his career in Hall County as a paraprofessional at South Hall Middle School in 1996. He later served as a teacher and coach, instructional coordinator, instructional coach, assistant principal, principal, and most recently as Director of Student Services. His leadership has touched countless students, families, and educators throughout the district.

“Joey Millwood’s impact on Hall County Schools is immeasurable,” Superintendent Will Schofield said. “As a Hall County graduate who dedicated his entire professional career to serving this community, Joey represents the very best of public education. He has consistently led with compassion, integrity, and a deep commitment to students. Whether working directly in schools or supporting students and families at the district level, Joey has always placed relationships and student well-being at the center of his work. We are deeply grateful for his three decades of service and wish him nothing but the best in this next chapter.”

Suzanne Jarrard, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning, who oversees Student Services, echoed that sentiment.

“Joey has been an exceptional leader and advocate for students,” Jarrard said. “His deep understanding of schools, combined with his steady, thoughtful approach to leadership, has strengthened our Student Services department and the support we provide to schools and families. Joey approaches every situation with empathy and professionalism, and his guidance has made a lasting difference for our district. He will be greatly missed.”

Millwood said his decision to retire followed much reflection and family discussion.

“This decision has not come easily, but after many heartfelt conversations with my wife and children, we have concluded that it is time to devote more of our focus, time, and energy to our family—especially our grandchildren,” Millwood said. “I have been truly blessed to work in various capacities within the Hall County School District over the course of my 30-year career. The connections I have formed with students, their families, and my colleagues will always be treasured, as they have had an eternal impact on my life.

“It is hard to put into words what this district means to me. To have been educated in the Hall County School System and then to spend my career serving the very community that gave me so much is a true blessing. Working alongside such dedicated, knowledgeable, and compassionate professionals has been one of the greatest honors of my life.”

The Hall County School District is grateful for Millwood’s decades of service and leadership and wishes him and his family continued happiness and success in retirement.
