    SENATE BILL 63

Home Study Students and Assessment (SB63)

Senate Bill 63 requires local school systems to offer select standardized assessments to home study students in grades six through twelve who reside within the district. 

Available Assessments: 

  • PSAT/NMSQT
  • ASVAB
  • Advanced Placement Exams – Offered to home study students enrolled in an Advanced Placement course through an authorized provider.

The registration information below is for students residing within the boundaries of the Hall County School District who have an approved home study plan on file with the Georgia Department of Education. (Note: A copy of your Home School Declaration of Intent from the Georgia Department of Education must be submitted with the exam request application. If you have not already completed it, you can find the form online along with instructions for submitting it to the Georgia Department of Education.)

Private school students should seek registration information from their enrolled private school.

Application Deadline: Annually by Sept. 1

Test Date: Varies by school–during the month of October

The PSAT is offered to all Gr10 students at no cost to families.  It is offered to Gr11 students for a fee.  Information about Home Study students’ participation in the PSAT can be found on the College Board website.  If interested in participating after reviewing the College Board’s information, please reach out to the PSAT contact person (see chart below) for the school in whose attendance zone you reside.  Please note that both the high school and the College Board require a minimum of 4 weeks’ notice prior to the testing date.

ASVAB

Exam Request Application: Home Study Student Exam Request Application

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a multiple-aptitude battery that measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success in the military. It is administered annually at our high schools by the US Armed Forces at no cost to our students. More information on the ASVAB including study information can be found at the ASVAB Website.   If interested in participating after reviewing the ASVAB information, please reach out to the ASVAB contact person (see chart below) for the school in whose attendance zone you reside.  Please note that the high school requires a minimum of 4 weeks’ notice prior to the testing date.

Advanced Placement Exams

Application Deadline: Tuesday, October 13, 2026

Exam Request Application: Home Study Student Exam Request Application

Test Date: Please refer to the College Board AP Exam Schedule at this link.

The Advanced Placement (AP) curriculum is a college-level curriculum defined by the College Board and designed to prepare students for AP exams held each May.

Any AP student for whom testing materials were ordered and who fails to appear for scheduled testing will be charged an unused exam fee. The AP Exam fee is $40 per unused AP exam.

If interested in participating after reviewing the AP exam information, please submit the completed exam request application and additional documents (as outlined in the exam request application) to the assistant principal and AP Coordinator (see chart below) for the school in whose attendance zone you reside. Please note that high schools require a minimum of 4 weeks’ notice before the AP exam registration deadline set by the College Board.

Accommodation requests for AP exams must be submitted directly to the College Board. Please visit the College Board website for details.

(Note: If the school a student is zoned for is not offering the AP exam requested, the school will contact the district office. The district will coordinate with the closest high school offering the requested AP exam for the student to take the AP exam at that school.)
