Billy Wells Selected as Director of Transportation for the HCSD
Superintendent Will Schofield announced today his intent to recommend North Hall High School Principal, Billy Wells, as the next Director of Transportation Services for the Hall County School District. The recommendation will be made at the Monday, January 12, 2026, board meeting. Wells will step into the position vacated by Clay Hobbs, who will retire at the end of the 2025-26 school year.
“I would like to thank the North Hall Faculty, Parents, and students for allowing me to serve the North Hall High School Community,” said Wells. “It has been one of the most rewarding parts of my time as an educational professional. I am constantly in awe of how well our group of educators, students, and community members work together to support the successes of our students. While I will miss those powerful moments at North Hall, I look forward to leading the Department of Transportation and not only continuing to serve the North Hall community, but to also serve the entire Hall County School District.”
Wells brings a broad range of leadership and educational experience to his new role, having served the Hall County School District and neighboring districts in a variety of capacities. He has been principal of North Hall High School since 2020, following service as associate principal from 2019–2020 and as assistant principal and athletic director from 2014–2019. Prior to North Hall, Wells served as athletic director and head football coach at Lanier High School from 2010–2014. He began his career at Loganville Middle School as an English teacher and coached football, wrestling, and baseball at both the middle and high school levels before moving to Collins Hill High School, where he held multiple roles including head football coach, department head, physical education teacher, ISS supervisor, assistant coach, and English language arts teacher.
“Billy Wells is an exceptional leader whose greatest strength is his ability to collaborate with people,” said Superintendent Will Schofield. “Throughout his time as principal at North Hall High School, he built strong relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners through clear communication, trust, and a deep understanding of how systems work. Billy understands that transportation is a people-driven operation, and his ability to connect with others, communicate expectations, and manage complex processes will serve our district extremely well in this role.”
The search for Wells’ replacement as principal will begin immediately.
