Hall County Students Explore Careers in Motorsports at Road Atlanta
Students from North Hall High School and Flowery Branch High School recently had an exciting opportunity to explore the science, technology, engineering, and careers behind professional motorsports at Road Atlanta ahead of the Petit Le Mans.
Spearheaded by Lanier Elementary School teacher Ansley Smallwood, the field trip was coordinated in partnership with IMSA and EVERFI. Students involved in their schools’ electric vehicle (EV) racing programs got a firsthand look at the STEM concepts that drive the motorsports industry. Before the visit, students completed an online EVERFI course introducing them to a variety of careers in motorsports.
At the track, students learned from industry experts about tires and traction with Michelin, oil with Motul, braking systems with Brembo, track safety with AMR, and race car design with Ford Racing.
The day concluded with an inspiring message from IMSA President John Doonan, who encouraged students to pursue their academic goals and consider the many opportunities available to them in STEM-related fields.
Experiences like this connect classroom learning with real-world applications, helping students discover how their interests and skills can translate into exciting future careers.
Thank you to Ansley Smallwood, IMSA, EVERFI, and all the industry partners who helped make this memorable learning experience possible!
