Superintendent Will Schofield announced today his intent to recommend Dr. Christy Hastings as the next Principal of East Hall Middle School. The recommendation will be made Monday, March 23, 2026, at the scheduled board meeting. Hastings, who has been East Hall Middle School’s Assistant Principal since 2021, will replace current Principal, Dr. Jamie Hitzges, who will transition to a new position in another school district at the end of the school year.

“It is with a profound sense of honor and humility that I step into the role of Principal at East Hall Middle School,” said Hastings. “Having served this community for several years as Assistant Principal, I have seen firsthand the incredible spirit that defines our “Viking” family. This school is more than just a building; it is a vibrant center of growth, and being chosen to lead it is a privilege I do not take lightly.”

Hastings brings 24 years of experience to East Hall Middle School, having served as an elementary and middle school classroom teacher. She has extensive experience at the middle school level, where she has served as an Assistant Administrator in the Forsyth County School System and an Assistant Principal in Hall County.

“Christy Hastings is a strong instructional leader who understands what high-quality teaching and learning look like in the classroom,” said Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Suzanne Jarrard. “She is an accomplished educator herself, which is evident in the meaningful professional learning she consistently provides for her staff. Because much of her career has been centered in middle schools, she also has a deep understanding of the unique developmental needs of adolescent learners. Most importantly, Christy is a builder of relationships. Her experience at East Hall will allow her to hit the ground running and continue moving the school forward.”

Hastings holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Liberty University. She also earned an Educational Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont College, a Master of Education in Early Childhood Education from University of North Georgia, and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from University of North Alabama.
