The Hall County School District congratulates Heather Duren, media specialist at Everwood Elementary School, for being selected as the 2026-27 District Teacher of the Year.<\/p>\n

\u201cHeather Duren brings everything that is great about teaching into the learning commons at Everwood Elementary School,\u201d said Suzanne Jarrard, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning. \u201cShe sets high expectations while fostering student engagement, strengthening student voice, building student efficacy, and instilling a joy for learning through meaningful connections with others.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jarrard and Superintendent Will Schofield surprised Duren yesterday afternoon with the exciting news. They were joined by leadership from Everwood Elementary School.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the moment Everwood opened its doors, Heather has been a source of positivity and inspiration,\u201d said Everwood Principal Laurie Hitzges. \u201cShe has created a Learning Commons where students feel welcomed and excited to learn. Her passion for literacy and student engagement is evident in every aspect of her work.<\/p>\n

\u201cHeather consistently goes above and beyond to support both students and staff. Whether she is collaborating with teachers, helping students discover the perfect book, or leading school-wide activities that build community, she approaches every opportunity with kindness and heart.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition to her work with students, Heather is an invaluable member of our leadership team. She is thoughtful, solution-oriented, and always willing to step in wherever needed. Her positive spirit and commitment to excellence help move our school forward each day.
\nHeather embodies the very best of education. We are incredibly proud to celebrate her as Everwood Elementary\u2019s Teacher of the Year and honored to see her recognized across Hall County for the difference she makes in the lives of children and educators every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is truly an honor to be recognized as both Everwood Elementary\u2019s and Hall County\u2019s Teacher of the Year,\u201d said Duren. \u201cOur first year at Everwood has been incredible, and I could not have asked for a better staff to work alongside. This dedicated group of professionals works tirelessly each day to provide meaningful learning experiences for our students, and it is an honor to represent them.<\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout my time in Hall County, I have had the privilege of serving as a classroom teacher, media specialist, and district Title III instructional coach. These experiences allowed me to work alongside many amazing educators across our district. I have seen firsthand the incredible impact Hall County teachers make on students every day. It is truly the honor of my career to be recognized by such a wonderful district.\u201d<\/p>\n

Duren will now move on to compete for the honor of the 2027 Teacher of the Year for the state of Georgia. She will also receive a check for 10,000 dollars from the Melvin Douglas and Victoria Kay Ivester Foundation<\/strong>. The foundation has provided the check to every HCSD Teacher of the Year since 2019.<\/p>\n
