08/03 – HCSD Update – Will Schofield
1. Masks are recommended, though not required at this time.
a. Masks reduce spread of COVID-19.
b. Young children who contact COVID-19 overwhelmingly do not get seriously ill.
c. Adults have had an opportunity to be vaccinated.
d. We are witnessing record school-age mental health issues because of the pandemic.
e. We are witnessing record learning loss because of the pandemic.
f. We are witnessing record adolescent suicide and suicide attempts.
g. Chaos and uncertainty have a significant effect on our children and adults.
h. We are closely monitoring the Delta variant.
2. Vaccinations encouraged for adults.
a. “Breakthroughs” of vaccinated individuals are real, but much less severe.
b. 0.1% of vaccinated Americans have gotten COVID.
c. Vaccinations are personal decisions that should be made in consultation with your own physician.
3. All mitigation measures are subject to change based upon local conditions.
