WHHS Senior Named County STAR Student

West Hall High School Senior Ashley Nelson has been named STAR Student for Hall County for 2018.  The announcement was made at the annual Gainesville Kiwanis Star Student-Teacher Luncheon on February 13 at the First Baptist Church Banquet Hall.  Miss Nelson selected Mrs. Anna Jackson as her STAR Teacher.

At the luncheon, the STAR Students and their STAR Teachers representing the 10 high schools in Hall County and Gainesville City were recognized and given framed certificates.  Both the STAR Student and STAR Teachers were introduced and allowed to address the audience of Gainesville Kiwanis members, teachers, counselors, principals, parents, and grandparents to tell them of their future plans and of the special relationship that exists between student and teacher.

The System Winners were announced at the conclusion of the event.  In addition to the Hall County Winners, the City Winners—STAR Student Coleman Pethel and STAR Teacher Debra Zwald—were also recognized.  Both System Winners will now complete for District 2 honors among the 12 school districts that will be represented.  The winners will be announced at the District 2 STAR Student-STAR Teacher Awards Banquet on March 21 at the University of North Georgia, Dahlonega Campus.  The District 2 STAR Student and STAR Teacher will advance to complete for state honors.
