On March 16, 2017, Amazon surprised fourth graders at the World Language Academy (WLA) with a donation of 45 Kids Edition Fire Tablets. The entire fourth grade had been brought to the media center for the event. WLA Primary Principal Brittany Bennett welcomed everyone and then introduced Amazon Site Leader Shane Screnock, local Amazon associates, and Flowery Branch Mayor Mike Miller who were on hand to help surprise the students.
The Fire Kids Edition tablets support learning in the classroom with kid-friendly and educational apps. In addition, a donation of $500 was given to the school to purchase additional content. The devices will increase students’ access to technology and allow them to incorporate new language learning strategies into their daily curriculum.
The donation is part of Amazon’s ongoing commitment to giving back in local communities where its associates work and live. In October 2016, Amazon began operations in a large, new distribution center in Braselton, which is planning a grand opening in the near future.
