“Building Bold Thinkers as We Learn Together in Harmony”
Wauka Mountain Elementary converted to charter status in August of 2010. Conversion charter schools are independent public schools that do not charge tuition. Wauka Mountain remains a part of the Hall County School System and receives the same financial support it received from the school district prior to becoming a charter school.
The student body of the school is made up of students who live in our attendance zone, as well as students from other attendance zones in Hall County who apply for admission. Applicants are selected by a lottery process that is held each spring.
Charter schools allow teachers the freedom to innovate and try new ways to improve student achievement and engagement in learning. Charter schools also give more choice to parents in their child’s education.
The focus of Wauka Mountain Multiple Intelligences Academy is to provide innovative opportunities for students grounded in Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences.
Howard Gardner contends that we are born “smart” in many areas such as music, art, word, math, body, and nature, yet traditionally, intelligence has only been measured by performance in reading and math. Gardner says children are intelligent in other areas as well and interest in those areas should be developed and cultivated.
