Course Name: Honors Algebra I with Geometry
Text: TBA
Course Description: Algebra I is designed to provide students with a progressive development of algebraic concepts, skills, and applications.
Outlines: More rigorous treatment of mathematical concepts than has been experienced in the past should be expected. This is the first course in college preparatory mathematics. Algebra I introduces algebraic concepts, emphasizes the theory and application of variables, graphing, linear equations, inequalities, and quadratics. Students will simplify and evaluate expressions, solve linear and quadratic equations. They will operate with integers, rational, and irrational numbers. They will recognize and use algebraic properties. Students will also simplify and factor polynomials, use properties of exponents and radicals, and solve radical equations.
Materials:
Agenda
3-ring notebook with notebook paper (No spiral notebooks, please) and dividers
Pencils with erasers
Scientific calculator (optional)
Text Book
Requirements: The criteria for earning the Carnegie Unit for Algebra I is a yearly average of at least 70%. The student must take the End of Course Test (EOCT) and makes up 15% of the final grade.
Grading Criteria:

Chapter Tests/Quizzes . . .30%
Final Exam/End of Course Test . ..15%
*Tests will be given at the end of each unit. Quizzes for review and assessment will be given frequently.
Notebook Sections:

Assignments: There will be many assignments throughout this class. The assignments range from homework, classwork, quizzes, tests, notebook checks, and small projects. Each student will list assignments in his/her agenda daily.
Make-up/Missing work: If a student is absent from class, I will allow one (1) day for each day missed to complete any assignments given on those days. After their allotted days are up, I will take off 10% each day after up to 3 days. After the 3rd day, the highest grade that can be made is a 65. I DO NOT ACCEPT ZEROS. If there is an assignment that is missing, we will make arrangements for the student to complete the assignment either before or after school or during zero period.
