"At UGA students are evaluated in the context of what courses are offered at their high school. If an IB Programme is available we like to see that students are taking advantage of some of the more difficult courses that are offered. A student's GPA and their high school courses are the best predictors of how a student will perform in their first college semester." Kelly A. Ochs Admissions Counselor University of Georgia |

Core Elements of the IB Diploma Programme Curriculum
To help students prepare for the expectations of college and become aware of the positive influence they can have on their own community, the International Studies Program also requires three essential elements.
| Extended Essay | A 4,000 word research essay designed to teach students how to independently research topics, much like those they will be exposed to at the college/university level |
| Theory of Knowledge | An interdisciplinary course that enables students to reflect critically on the question of “How do we know what we know?” |
| Creativity, Action & Service | Through creative activities, sports, volunteerism, etc., students build confidence in themselves while improving their communities (IBO requires 150 hours of service over students’ junior and senior years) |
