Voting:  If you are six months within your 18th birthday we can assist you in registering to vote! Come to the front office for a form!

News for Male Students who are 17 years old and older:  Under federal law, virtually all men must register with Selective Service with 30 days of their 18th birthday.  However, the Selective Service System now accepts early submission of registration information and automatically enters their data in the system when they turn 18.  Beverly Buffington is the NHHS’s Selective Service Representative. Registering is very easy. You can register on-line at www.sss.gov. If you need help with the  process let us know in the front office. Failure to register jeopardizes eligibility for future college student loans and grants, including the HOPE scholarships and grants.  Not registering will place young men at a risk for eligibility in job training, Federal and State government jobs and if they are immigrants – U.S. Citizenship.  Let us know if we can help you.

Here’s the deal on ID cards:  Students were given a week and ½ to “get used” to wearing them.  After the first week and half was over this is the procedure:  After announcements or before the bell rings for 1st period  if a student does not have their name tag on they must report to the front office.  Students who report for the first time will be given a temporary sticker.  They must wear the sticker all day. If they remove the sticker and are sent to the office they will be sent to In School Suspension for the Day.  If a student reports to the front office after the first warning they are sent to ISS for the day or until someone brings their badge to school or they purchase another one in the media center for $7. Please keep in mind a couple of things even the temporary badges have paper that is expensive.  If a student is in the front office after announcements they are missing some of their class time which is an inconvenience to both teacher and student. If a student receives ISS for not having their badge on it will keep them from receiving their Renaissance card upgrade (if applicable) in January but definitely knock them out of getting a card next year if they are an underclassman.  Please do everything to remember to put your badge in your book bag at the end of the day.  ID badges are used in all high schools throughout our county and students and staff are required to wear them.

Will Cape is going to be the Kennesaw College. Thomas Marchman is headed to Mercer University. We are extremely proud of these Seniors and all of our Seniors who are going to further their education!! Go TROJANS!

EXAM EXEMPTION

On page 5 of the student agenda book is an important update students may want to take advantage of.  The paragraph reads: All students are eligible to exempt the final examination in a course if they meet BOTH of the following criteria:

* Hold a final course average of 85 or higher and

* Have no more than 5 absences in a full credit course or 3 absences in a 1/2 credit course.

An absence is defined as any absence from class, excused or unexcused.  School-sponsored activities such as field trips and athletic events do not count as an absence.

Please note: If a check out or a check in results in a student missing more than 1/2 the period it will be considered an absences for that period.  The exemption of the test is based on each period’s absences.
