N e w s / Johnson High Student Wins Logo Design for the State.
Michael Thompson, a senior at Johnson High School (JHS) recently won 1st place in a state-wide search for a new Work-Based Learning logo. The contest was sponsored by the Youth Apprenticeship State Advisory Committee. Michael will receive a $100.00 cash prize and be recognized at the Georgia Association for Career and Technical Education (GACTE) Conference in July.

Michael has been a student in the Graphic Communications program at JHS for four years. Scott Porter, his instructor, says, “Michael has shown exceptional talent and skills and has been one of the best graphic designers he has seen to come through the JHS program.” According to Porter, Michael has received multiple awards from the Printing & Imaging Association of Georgia (PIAG) for his designs. On April 3rd, he will be recognized at the Print Excellence awards at the PIAG annual Celebration of Print Gala in Atlanta for his latest accomplishments.

Currently, Michael is working on his “PrintED” national certification, as well as assisting with the SkillsUSA Promotional Bulletin Board. The bulletin board will be entered in the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference competition in April.

There are many opportunities available to students in the Graphic Communications program at JHS. Mr. Porter remarked, “It makes me proud when students take the initiative and excel. Michael will have a bright future in the graphics and printing industry.”
