History

The origins of Mount Vernon Elementary are found in its community-based support. The first Mount Vernon School dates back to the late 1800s and was located somewhere around the present site of North Hall High School. The richness of its picturesque setting, consisting of pastures and rolling hills, enhances the modern up-to-date facility. Mt. Vernon Elementary opened in August of 1993 with a first day enrollment of 590 students.

Mount Vernon added 10 new classrooms 1996.  This addition raised our student capacity to 720.

We had the honor of being named a Georgia School of Excellence for the year of 2002.  This honor is bestowed on schools who demonstrate excellence in academics and programs for students.

Mount Vernon has once again added classrooms in 2003.  Ten new classrooms were completed and increased our student capacity to 825.
