Mission Statement

McEver Elementary School's Media Center strives to empower the learning community to use information, ideas, and technology ethically, creatively, and critically in order to become lifelong learners and to promote enthusiasm and enjoyment of reading.

The McEver Elementary School staff believes that education should enable students to develop their potential as unique individuals, as contributing citizens of a democratic society, and as members of the world community. Therefore, the media staff and the media committee will strive to plan activities and to obtain resources to meet the following educational goals consistent with those of the Hall County Media Policy:

  • To provide learning experiences which meet the unique instructional, developmental, and personal needs of students
  • To provide learning experiences which enable students to communicate effectively (by oral, written, and visual means), compute accurately, and think creatively critically, and independently.
  • To provide learning experiences which enable students to develop and understand the value and contributions of their own culture and that of others.
  • To prepare students for responsible citizenry in a democratic society, for an understanding of their relationship to the world community, and for lifelong learning

  • To provide meaningful, timely instruction in information access skills, including print, non-print, and electronic means.
  • To provide materials for reference and research.

  • To provide a wide variety of reading materials for all uses.
  • To provide an opportunity for recreational reading.
  • To develop respect for others' rights and privileges.
  • To develop good thinking and learning habits.
  • To form the habit of using library media centers and materials.

  • To participate in programs for the continuing professional growth of the school staff.
  • To provide materials and resources to support curricular integration.
  • To plan cooperatively for information access skills integration into the grade level curriculum.
  • To maintain a flexible schedule for more effective and efficient use of library media materials and resources.

Objectives For Media - Technology Committee

  • Set short term and long term goals for the media program including the budget, technology and literacy standards, and services provided.
  • Evaluate media program and make recommendations and decisions related to technology/media based programs and services including schedules and routines, ciculation, AR, the bookfair, special speakers, morning news program, the McEver website, donations, weeding, and challenged materials.
  • Explore ways to promote reading including Accelerated Reader, summer reading programs, grade level reading goals, etc.
  • Prioritize purchases for collection development including books, videos, periodicals, and equipment, based on analysis of instructional needs and current collection.
  • Explore ways that media and specials can connect with classroom instruction and provide resources for students and teachers. 
  • Create a school-wide research plan to develop skills including locating materials, note taking, citing sources, etc.
  • Establish a system to help staff and students comply with copyright laws.
  • Train on new technology and computer programs and teach others on team.
