Why did two world-renowned Harvard professors and two Atlanta-based organizational consultants recently spend a full morning at the Martin Technology Academy in Flowery Branch? To learn, of course!
After observing two classes each and then meeting with several teachers, both professors came away impressed with the system and with the commitment and passion of MTA’s teachers and staff. They especially noted the high degree of collaboration between teachers, including regular peer-to-peer classroom observations as well as on-going feedback on both the design and delivery of lessons. “There’s an exemplary culture here of teachers helping teachers improve their lessons and teaching,” commented Dr. Kegan. “That’s a credit to them, the administration, and the learning system that facilitates it.”
Andy Fleming and Claire Lee from Core Growth Partners, an Atlanta-based consulting and coaching firm, joined Professors Kegan and Lahey in their visit. “We saw some great lessons being taught in the classrooms,” Mr. Fleming reflected afterwards. “But we also think MTA could teach businesses and other organizations a great deal about how to live their core values everyday. This school sets an example that any organization would do well to follow.”On behalf of the staff we would like to thank you for your willingness to support the students at MTA. We are blessed to be part of a true community school. Attached you will find information regarding a recent change to a Georgia law that looks after our children. As educators we are mandated reporters for any suspicion of child abuse. The recent changes expand this protection of children by law, applying this to volunteers as well. The attachments include the change in law and policy as well as an informative training that is online for volunteers. Please be sure to look at the documents and follow the directions for the online training. We have computers in our Media Center if you do not have internet access at home to complete this module. The program provides the Principal a list of people who have completed the online training. It will take 20 to 30 minutes to complete. Any person who wishes to volunteer at MTA must complete the online training prior to participating in volunteer time.
Thank you for your commitment to keep our children safe and to remain involved in the education of the MTA children.
