Elementary Schools

The Hall County Schools are accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The curriculum includes the Georgia Performance Standards (www.georgiastandards.org).  A concerted effort is made to recognize unique differences among students in all subject areas.

A child’s literacy is developed using a Balanced Literacy Framework, which is a systematic, multilevel, and multi-method approach.  The Balanced Literacy Framework provides an instructional guide for our teachers in developing our student’s literacy.  Literacy development is a complex process involving various components dependent upon the developmental readiness of each child.  It is our goal that every child is reading on or above grade level in every Hall County School by the end of third grade. The framework takes into consideration the many ways children learn.  Instructional components included in this framework are research-based and promote a balanced approach to building literacy.  This framework outlines the journey from “Learning to Read” to “Reading to Learn”.

Middle and High Schools

The middle schools and high schools of Hall County operate on the semester system.  This pattern provides for two semesters of approximately ninety days each during the regular year.  Students receive report cards each nine weeks, and a progress report is given midway through each grading period.

Among the approximately 225 course offerings, the curriculum includes:

Mathematics courses to help meet career preparation goals and college preparatory math from algebra through calculus, computer programming and statistics.

A science course sequence that culminates with advanced biology, chemistry, and physics.

Language arts courses in American and English literature, in grammar, composition and business English.

Foreign language study in French, Spanish and German.

Skills courses in construction trades, metal fabrication, auto mechanics, graphic arts, health care, computer technology applications, (CAD) Computer Aided Drafting, and Integrated Manufacturing Technology.

Youth Apprenticeship Program to teach more in-depth on-the-job skills coupled with post-secondary technical training.

Special education programs are provided in eight areas of exceptionality:

Mentally retarded
Behavior disordered
Speech impaired
Visually impaired
Hearing impaired
Multi-handicapped

Hospital/homebound instruction is provided to students confined by long-term illness.  All special education services are provided with the assistance and cooperation of parents and guardians.

The Hall County School System provides educational opportunities for gifted students identified through a process based on state guidelines. Referrals of students for consideration for services in this program may be made by teachers, counselors, administrators, parents or guardians, peers, and students. Eligibility criteria meet state requirements and are based on results from standardized tests and rating scales in the areas of mental ability, achievement, creativity, and motivation.

The program in our system is called SEARCH – Seeking Excellence And Reaching Challenging Heights. Instruction is modified through appropriate pacing, curriculum, compacting, enrichment activities for extension of concepts and opportunities to utilize critical thinking.

Services are available in all our schools with resource teachers certified in Gifted Education. We are very proud that our system has approval from the Professional Standards Commission to provide the training for teachers to participate and obtain Gifted Endorsement through our Staff Development Program.

The Technical education program is designed to help students prepare for and satisfactorily begin entry-level jobs or to seek further education leading toward a career.  To accomplish this, students may enroll in one or more occupational courses.  Students still undecided about a career objective may enroll in exploratory programs or rotate from one career cluster to another, while those with a tentative career choice can either pursue entry-level job skills or prepare for further education.  Cooperative technical education programs are also provided sot hat students can attend school part-time and be placed on jobs in the community for on-the-job training.
