The Viking Marching Band traveled to the Armuchee Invitational Marching Band Competition in Rome, GA to perform for a group of distinguished judges from the Georgia Music Educators Association. The band competed in AAAAA (yes, 5A) classification I am very proud to report to you that our band came home with 13 large trophies. The band received 6 level 1 (superior, highest ranking) trophies during the awards ceremony for their performance and was awarded 2nd place Drum Major, 1st place Majorette, 2nd place Color Guard, 2nd place Percussion, and 3rd place Band. We were one of only 5 bands competing to receive “Straight Superior Ratings” in every category. This triumph sets us up perfectly going into the Georgia Bandmasters Championship in a couple of weeks (Oct. 24th).

This superb accomplishment is remarkable, especially considering that we’re competing against schools with a much larger population (AAAAA) and more funding and resources. The students who are in the Viking Band put a lot of extra practice time in and work hard to represent our school and community. They take pride in their performance and have earned the reputation of being one of the very best.
