C.W. DAVIS MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT UNIFORM DRESS CODE

Students who reflect neatness, cleanliness, and good taste are dressing for success. Student dress should not violate common safety, be a distraction, or cause a disruption of the educational process or the orderly operation of the school. In general, clothing should be clean, neat, and not frayed. Shirt sleeves may not be rolled up. Clothing should fit properly, neither too loosely nor too tightly. The student should be dressed in a manner that reflects, rather than distracts from the learning process. Unlike embroidered, formal or certain strict “uniforms,” this uniform dress code allows the student to be appropriately dressed for school and the general public. The student uniform program is mandatory for all students and is in effect 5-days per week.

An Overview of the Student Uniform

Tops: The top portion will consist of either golf-style, knit or polo-type shirts; button down dress shirt; or crew neck t-shirts. Shirts should be of sufficient length to cover the top of the waistband of pants when sitting down. Sleeves may be short or long.

Bottoms: The bottom section of the uniform will consist of “Dockers” style cotton pants, skirts, jumpers, Capri’s, or shorts where the items are not shorter that the length of a dollar bill from the bend of the knee. These items are to be worn at the waist and not down around the hips. Denim (jeans), athletic style pants, or pajamas may not be worn.

Availability: Student uniforms may be purchased at stores of the parent’s choice.

Shirt Styles: All shirts (tops) must be:

· Crew neck or knit with a collar and have a sleeve (short or long sleeve)

· Shirts must be solid in color (no logos, stripes, or any other identification)

· “Spirit” shirts are allowed containing images from DMS, FBHS, or the Atlanta Falcons.

· No low-cut shirts are allowed. If the shirt is determined to be too low-cut, the student will be asked to change or call a parent to bring another item.

· Shirts may not contain holes, slits, or marketing

· No sleeveless shirts, muscle shirts, short shirts that expose areas of the stomach or back, mesh shirts, tube tops, see-through clothing, or spaghetti straps are allowed.

· Knit shirts may be white, black, red, or gray.

· Crew neck shirts (T-Shirts) may be black, red, or gray. White crew neck shirts may not be worn.

· During cooler weather, pullovers, sweaters, and sweatshirts that are solid white, solid red, solid black, or solid gray and do not contain markings, logos, stripes, or other designs may be worn.

· SHIRTS DO NOT HAVE TO BE TUCKED IN AS LONG AS THE SHIRTS ARE LONG ENOUGH TO COVER THE MIDRIFF WHEN THE STUDENT IS SEATED.

Pants Styles: All pants must be:

· Standard “Dockers” style pants

· Pants with cargo pockets that fit flat against the leg are acceptable

· Belts do not have to be worn if the pants fit properly (can be worn at the waist). If the pants are too baggy, the student will be asked to change pants or a parent will be contacted to bring a belt or a change of clothing.

· Pants must be solid khaki or black and not contain logos, symbols, or stripes.

· Denim (jeans) of any sort is not permitted

· Baggy pants, zip-off pants, pants that do not fit (i.e. if the student wears a size 30 then he/she must be wearing a size 30, not a 36), pants that touch the ground, pants with zip-up or tie-up sides, athletic pants, or faded pants are not permitted.

Outerwear:

· Bulky jackets will not be allowed during the school day. During cold weather, students may wear heavy jackets to and from school, but they must be placed in lockers during the school day.

· Light jackets may be worn during the day, but they must be black, gray, red, or white.

· Must not contain lettering unless they are DMS, FBHS, or Atlanta Falcon items.

· Small logos (two inches or less) will be allowed.

Shoes: Any regular style shoes such as sneakers, loafers, etc. are appropriate. Some footwear that may be deemed inappropriate by the school administration for reasons of safety or disrupting of the school environment will not be permitted to be worn. BEDROOM /BATH SLIPPERS MAY NOT BE WORN.
