Board Approves Final Configuration for New High School PDF Print

Tuesday, 03 February 2009

At the February 9, 2009 monthly business meeting, the Hall County Board of Education approved Superintendent Will Schofield's recommendation for the new high school building currently under construction on Spout Springs Road.Superintendent Will Schofield prefaced his recommendation with some very sobering news about next year's budget, which will be severely impacted by both the downturn in the state and local economies.  Needing to trim $10--$17 million dollars from the budget, Mr. Schofield recommended the plan that would possibly save upwards to $1.5 million.  This adopted plan calls for the current Flowery Branch High School grades 9--12 to move into the new facility on Spout Springs Road, the current C. W. Davis Middle School grades 6--8 to movie into the existing Flowery Branch High building, and finally, the current South Hall Middle School grades 6--8 to move into the existing Davis Middle building to allow much need renovation to be done to the current SHMS over the next two years.

"I think it's a great fit for the number of students we have and the number of facilities we have," Board member Nath Morris said.

"This opens the door for us to jump in and really be progressive," said Hall County school board member Brian Sloan, who represents the South Hall area.
