Media Center Policy and Procedures
Accessibility:
- The Media Center is open to students from 8:10 A.M. until 3:45 P.M. Students not accompanied by a teacher need a signed agenda to use the Media Center.
- Teachers may access the Media Center from 7:45 A.M. until 4:00 P.M.
- Teachers and students may access the Infocentre On-line Catalogue from any computer in the building to determine what media center support materials (books, audiovisual, and computer programming) are available.
Scheduling:
- The media center and media center personnel are accessible at all times and provide a combination of open and flexible scheduling. All classes are provided with basic media center orientation during the first two weeks of school and supplementary instructional programming in language arts, social studies, science, and information research skills for the school year. Though classes may be scheduled to come to the library for a particular program, this does not prevent any other class from coming to the media center. Small groups (5 or less) or individuals may come to the media center at any time for research, checkout, or reading with a media center pass signed by the teacher. Whole classes may come at any time under the direction of the teacher for the checking out of books, research or reading. Sign-up for whole group research and check-out is provided through a notebook on the circulation counter.
- Classes scheduled for the media center will work with programming that is in support of the instructional program. The teachers and media specialist will work cooperatively to support and implement the curriculum. Planning is accomplished through both formal and informal means.
