7th Grade Language Arts
Seventh graders are learning how to use technical writing in such areas as: instructions, directions, recipes, business letters, resumes and applications. Some students have gone online to become familiar with college applications, and others have completed job applications as well.
Our primary unit for this term is “Response to Literature”. After reading a book, students will choose one of the following to demonstrate their skills and knowledge:
- Create a book jacket or poster that concisely summarizes the main idea while stimulating interest in the book
- Write a real book review that can be shared online with other young readers, through such sites as Amazon.com
- Compose an imaginary interview with the author

Freerice.com is an interesting website that allows students to take vocabulary quizzes to earn grains of rice, which are then donated to developing countries by the U.N. What a worthy endeavor!
Readwritethink.com is another good link for students and parents.
