We encourage you to apply early to colleges. Our recommended application deadline is December 1, 2008. Be sure to check with individual colleges for their requirements.
We keep a small supply of college applications and catalogs in the counseling office career center. You are welcome to visit the career center anytime. Many colleges are using online applications. The career center has computers you may use with parental permission. The Georgia Career Information System (GCIS) and Georgia College 411 are also available in the career center.
You are encouraged to visit colleges you are interested in. Check your student handbook for guidelines on college visitation days. We also suggest you visit one of the college fairs that are advertised to you.
You must submit an official high school transcript for each college application you send. You must request your transcript through the counseling office. You will be asked to sign for each transcript you request. Transcripts are free while you are a CHS student. Starting with your final transcript at graduation, there will be a $3.00 charge for transcripts.
Most colleges require the high school to mail your transcript and any other forms we are required to complete. We ask that you give us a minimum of 48 hours or 2 school days to prepare your transcript. It is your responsibility to correspond with colleges and check to see if all of your materials have been received.
Once you have been accepted to the college of your choice, you must request a final transcript. The final transcript proves that you have graduated from high school. Shortly before graduation, we will ask you to request your final transcript (the $3.00 charge will begin). Final transcripts are mailed a few days after graduation.
When we receive scholarship information in the counseling office, we will notify you through the morning announcements. Keep in mind that all scholarships have application deadlines. We advise you to stay on top of this information so you do not miss out on scholarships that apply to you. Scholarship information may also be obtained through the financial aid office of the college you plan to attend.
