West Hall Named Named "2009 Georgia School of Excellence" PDF Print
Friday, 06 November 2009
West Hall High School Principal Jackie Adams has been notified that the school will be among twenty-seven (27) across the state to earn the distinction of being a “2009 Georgia School of Excellence.” State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox, in naming the 2009 Georgia Schools of Excellence that have  shown the greatest improvement or highest achievement across the state, said,   "These schools are getting great results from all students in many different areas. The teachers, students and administrators at these schools truly represent excellence. Congratulations to our 2009 Georgia Schools of Excellence."

The Georgia Schools of Excellence are honored in two categories.
Qualifying schools are chosen from each Congressional District in the
following categories:
   - Top 10%: Schools that are in the top 10 percent of schools in Georgia
as measured by assessments in reading and mathematics.
   - Greatest Gains: Schools that demonstrated greatest continuous gains
in student achievement for the past five years as measured by assessments
     in reading and mathematics.

The Georgia Schools of Excellence will be honored at a banquet on February 5, 2009, at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park.

Principal Jackie Adams was thrilled with the news and released the following statement:

“We are honored to be named a ‘2009 Georgia School of Excellence’ and recognize the efforts of many to achieve this award. The Hall County Board of Education and central office staff have supported our school’s ultimate goal:  to increase student achievement. Teachers have raised expectations for all students, and students have risen to the occasion, working hard to be successful in their classes, in extracurricular activities, and as integral members of their community. The culture of our school is one of acceptance where diversity is embraced, passions are explored, and education is emphasized.  An expansion of the curriculum through the International Baccalaureate program, Advanced Placement course offerings, ESOL curriculum, volunteer experiences, Career/Technical education, fine arts, and an array of sports and clubs allows students to discover their passions and to reach their full potential.”
