Elementary Students "Inspired" by Visit to DaVinci Academy Museum PDF Print
Tuesday, 27 October 2009

On Monday, October 26, 2009, 140 5th grade students from Martin Elementary School were the first group to visit the DaVinci Academy's Museum of Inspired Leaning.  The exhibits, accompanying lessons, and instructions were all done by 7th graders at DaVinci:  "“It’s been a long, grueling task,” student Sarah Hodge said of the preparation. “We’ve done so much research on the ocean. ... I’ve learned the scientific name of the Mako shark. I’ve learned there’s 230,000 species in the ocean, and if you times that by 10, that’s how many species we don’t know of yet.”  The importance of the impact of having student's prepare the exhibits and teach the lessons was acknowledged by Martin 5th grader Autumn Hutto, “You’re learning from your peers and not your teacher.  It’s kind of cool. I like this.”
