School Nurses to Provide a Variety of Services for Hall County Students
For the first time, all Hall County Elementary and Middle Schools will
have a nurse on staff. The implementation of the School Nurse Program
is a result of a provision from House Bill 1187. The nurses will
provide a variety of services:
- Assist with medications needed during the school day.
- Give emergency care.
- Provide mandated screenings for vision, color vision, hearing, and scoliosis.
- Identify and follow-up health problems which may interfere with learning.
- Manage the prevention and control of contagious diseases.
- Teach health curriculum (i.e., hand washing, hygiene, etc.).
- Coordinate referrals to community agencies.
- Provide crisis intervention.
- Provide staff in-service.
- Participate in disaster preparedness.
- Assist with special health care procedures
