First 9 Weeks
Monday, Wednesday-Friday Classes

We have a busy and exciting schedule ahead!  Our fourth and fifth graders will begin a “Les Penseurs, The Thinkers,” unit called, “Water, Go with the Flow.”  This unit flows around the element of water.  We will examine the structure of water, water’s role in transportation and exploration. This curriculum takes the student through human health, brain functions, and the Marianas Trench.  The student will engage in activities that involve critical water issues on a global scale.  To celebrate and show our hard work, the fourth and fifth graders will be entering projects in this year’s Idea Fest 2007, presented by Featherbone Communiversity, and The Times.   I am also sending more specific information about this project home.   This is a local community project, the topic, “Water:  Your Thoughts.”  They want ideas and inventions related to some aspect of water.    Everyone in Hall County is encouraged to participate.   Entries are due by Oct. 5th, 2007 and the Festival is Friday, October 19th.    After reading the brochure, please contact me if you know anyone that may be interested in speaking to us on anything having to deal with water.

Third grade will begin a special language arts unit called “Beyond Words:  Imagery in Literature.  This is a unit from the College of William and Mary, Center for Gifted Education.  We will work on developing analytical and interpretive skills in literature, identifying, analyzing, and using figurative language, developing persuasive writing skills, analogical reasoning skills, and develop an understanding of the concept of change, especially changes related to language.  We will be reading a variety of literature selections that will stimulate discussion, writing, listening, and vocabulary activities.

I will be visiting the First and Second grade classrooms for the first several weeks.  We will be working with “PETS, Primary Education Thinking Skills.”

Please Contact me if you have any ideas or questions.
