Martin Art Program

The Martin Art Program is based on the National Standards for Visual Arts as well as the Georgia Standards for Visual Arts.

All students will:

-Engage in the creative process, open-ended inquiry, problem-solving, and aesthetic understanding of their own art work and the art work of others.

-Answer the big questions: "What is Art?"  and 'Who can be and Artist?"

-Create artworks by applying medias, techniques, and processes to formulate and express their own ideas and conceptual understandings.

-Reflect upon and assess the characteristics and merits of their own work and the art work of others.

-Make connections to other disciplines and the world around them through visual arts.

 

Kindergarten & First Grade

This is a "Make and Take" curriculum the children will do art work based on different themes, different art styles, and real world art connections. The fall semester art classes will be exploring drawing, colors of the rainbow, shapes geometric and organic, manipulating materials-cutting, arranging, and gluing.

 

Second Grade

Children will be exploring all the Elements of Design in Art through skill and technique building exercises.  The fall semester art classes will gain an understanding of Narrative art through other cultures, historical events, and patriotic themes. Projects will be in Unit form, developing art from a theme or skill over several class sessions. Some of the projects will be Native American story telling through symbols, Line Pie developing use of different lines, print making through crayon resist , Patriotic themed art, and Historical themed art.

Third Grade

Students will be exploring all the Elements of Design in Art through skill and technique building exercises.  Students will be exploring both 2D and 3D art forms with more emphasis on three dimensional works of art.  Projects will be in Unit form, developing art by making connections through other cultures, art forms, and artistic styles. Some of the fall semester projects will be relief sculpture, paper mache' mask building, collage, and printmaking.

Fourth Grade

Students will be developing art works based on different types of art and styles of art.  Students will demonstrate both elements of art and principles of design in their works of art. Projects will be in Unit form, developing art making connections through other cultures, art forms, and artistic styles as well as developing their own style. Some of the fall semester projects will be based on graphic design, portrait drawing, Egyptian clay mask, and patriotic themed mixed media.

Fifth Grade

Students will be developing art works based on different types of art and styles of art.  Student will demonstrate both elements of art and principles of design in their works of art. Projects will be in Unit form, developing art making connections through other cultures, historical events, art forms, and artistic styles as well as developing their own style. Some of the fall semester projects will be based on graphic design, watercolor painting, printmaking, and patriotic themed mixed media.

 

Coming Events in Art:

Look for the "Young Masters" art brochures to come home sometime in October in time to order those gift items, cards, t-shirts, prints, coffee mugs, etc. with your child's art work on them. Orders will be back in time for holiday gifts!  Proceeds go to PTO.
