MTA hosts Science Olympiad event

On March 24th MTA hosted the first Hall County Elementary Science Olympiad Event. Our MTA Science Olympiad club competed against World Language Academy students. Each student participated in three different events. Two MTA students earned 1st place ribbons in their event – Alex Phagan (5th) and Dimetrio Landaverde (4th). MTA also had two students who earned 2nd and 3rd place in their events – Wesley Herndon (4th) and Chloe King (3rd). We are so proud of our students and interns that worked so hard for this event. It was a very special day for MTA students and staff!

This year MTA started the Science Olympiad Club, which was sponsored by Becky Vinson (1st grade teacher) and Heather Duncan (Instructional Coach). Senior interns from North Georgia (Jessica Brown, Sarah Mudd, Ashley Worley, Lyndsey Thomas, and Brittany Jamison) facilitated the club meetings. The club met twice a month to practice each event.

The Martin 5 and Success Formula

Martin has chosen five rules from Ron Clark's book The Essential 55: An Award-Winning Educator's Rules for Discovering the Successful Student in Every Child to emphasize to all students. This school year each grade level is adopting two rules to follow in addition to the Martin 5; these grade level essentials are being called the Success Formula. 1.  Respond to adults.

2.  Make eye contact.

3.  Respect other students' comments, opinions, and ideas.

4.  When walking in line keep your arms at your sides, and move quietly.

5.  No matter the circumstances, always be honest.
