In 1949, Chicopee Manufacturing Corporation built a private school to serve the educational needs of children whose parents worked at the mill.
The original school served students in grades one through eight. Later, Chicopee School was opened to the public and became part of the Hall County System in 1958.
Chicopee Elementary was renamed Sylvester B. Jones Elementary in memory of a highly respected former principal. Since 1949, a number of additions to the school have been built. Presently, the school serves kindergarten through fifth grades in thirty-two classrooms.
